TURNING DATA INTO VALUE
EPO is based on algorithms that optimize the load flow between a controlled element (synchronous machines and power electronic devices) and its adjacent substation. The algorithms consider the dynamic nature of the system parameters, adjusting them according to the equipment age, the maintenance activities, and the operating conditions in order to predict the behavior of the grid. This leads to the real-time identification of the optimal operating points and the maximization of economic profitability.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
EPO incorporates the phasor measurements acquired from substations, such as unsynchronized three-phase values of voltages, currents, active and reactive power. The combined interpretation of historical values and real-time information is the key to evaluate the behavior of the electrical branch between two different data acquisition points.
After this interpretation, EPO runs an optimization algorithm that identifies the operating point that meets the predefined optimization criteria. The result is then communicated in real-time to the controlled equipment.
Variations on the active and reactive power combination have a significant impact on the line performance, reducing losses and improving efficiency.
EFFICIENCY CURVE
The dynamics of the power system can be used in favor of the operator to optimize the efficiency of the system. Whenever there is a change in an electromechanical parameter of any element on an electrical branh, its new behavior is used to automatically compute the new optimal operating point. In addition, EPO ensures the compliance with energy quality criteria, enhances operational flexibility, and forecasts and optimizes operating losses.

Enline Power Optimization tool is a well defined and independent solution but it can also be implemented as part of our Enline Monitoring System platform. The customer has the possibility to install EPO using different architectures -cloud servers with both end-substations connected to the internet using the Enline Industrial Internet of Things Gateway (as shown in the diagram) or using a local server in TLs connected communicating via OPGW cables.This conditions allow GML to commission EPO in any installation within few days.
